5 paragraph essay

Personal Interest:
This topic is interesting because it is an ongoing issue for many years now. Some people just want to have Marijuana taxable like cigarettes and easy and able to get as cigarettes. This topic will interest me for a few months because it is an issue that the government needs to resolve and the outcome should be interesting. This topic might have an impact on my future because this law could change the way people are acting now, in the present. Legalizing it a together would make it easier to get, buy and deal.(This could cause several problems in the future). Question 1, Why is Marijuana illegal in the first place? Question 2, When the government says that you can use it for medical purposes; the law states that you cannot posses, deal or have marijuana….how does this make sense? Question 3, Why doesn’t the government just legalize Marijuana use(like cigarettes) but with certain restrictions? Question 4, Should Marijuana use be just for medical purposes, or for personal reasons too?

Currency: The government, and certain states, are trying to pass a bill that will allow medical Marijuana to be legal for patients to use for medical reasons. I found out that Obama passed a bill that will not arrest medical marijuana users as long as they agree and follow state laws (No dealing, or using for personal reasons other than medical). And the Justice department announced that they will not "seek to prosecute people." This new action taken forth by Obama and followers could encourage other states to make their own laws reagarding the use of medical marijuana. There are 14 states that allow the use of marijuana for medical purposes: Alaska, California,Colorado, Hawaii, Maine, Maryland, Michigan, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, Oregon, Rhode Island, Vermont, and Washington. "Research has shown marijuana to be a safe and effective medicine for controlling nausea associated with cancer therapy, reducing the eye pressure for patients with glaucoma, and reducing muscle spasms caused by multiple sclerosis, para- and quadriplegia..."

Information Available: I could look up information on USA today and CNN.com. I could also interview some people who use/used it or people who are doctors and prescribed it for a patient.I think the information will somewhat easy but challenging at the same time.

Ongoing: I don't know the exact dates because I did not write them down, but i remember that one of thme was from April, 2009. I predict that someone is going to change the laws and allow medical marijuana to be useable for people with medical issues. I also think it might be easier for people to get now that medical patients can get it easier. A lot more people will deal/ sell it and it will become a huge issue in schools for teens and in the whole country as a whole.
Challenging:This topic is what is going on in the united States right now. This could change a lot of things in the united states and possibly the world.
